Sovereign Centros from CBRE has recently revealed that Footasylum, a prominent streetwear retailer, is set to significantly increase its store size at Metrocentre, ranked among the UK’s top five super-regional shopping malls. This expansion illustrates the dynamic investment activity by retailers within the centre.

The retailer will expand its space by 25%, moving into a 12,375 sq ft area formerly occupied by another store. This larger unit will accommodate a broader selection of streetwear, sportswear, and footwear for all ages. Positioned in the Lower Red Mall, Footasylum will be situated alongside well-known fashion outlets such as Flannels, Zara, and River Island.

This expansion aligns with a wave of investments by major brands within the Metrocentre. Notably, Sunglass Hut has upgraded from a small kiosk to a 2,457 sq ft retail space in the Lower Red Mall. Similarly, the menswear label Jack & Jones has relocated to a new 1,733 sq ft location on the upper Red Mall, demonstrating their ongoing commitment to the shopping centre.

Ben Cox, Director at Sovereign Centros from CBRE, commented on the recent developments: “Last year, 17 of our tenants enhanced or invested in their current locations, and this year the list includes EE, Primark, Clarks, Victoria’s Secret, and now Footasylum and Jack & Jones. The leasing activity highlights Metrocentre’s continued appeal as a highly desirable location, with major brands committing to expand their presence here. Footasylum is among the latest to establish a new flagship store at Metrocentre, joining several exciting new retailers in the Red Mall.”

A spokesperson from Footasylum shared their excitement about the expansion: “We are thrilled with the customer demand at Metrocentre and are eager to increase our presence with a new, larger unit. We anticipate bringing an extensive range of streetwear to this key shopping hub and are confident in our ongoing success at the centre.”

This news accompanies the announcement that GO Outdoors, a leading retailer of outdoor clothing and equipment, has opened its first shopping centre-based store in the area. Operating as a GO Outdoors Express, this store offers a variety of popular brands such as Rab, OEX, and Berghaus, alongside Peter Storm, HiGear, and North Ridge.
