Primark to Launch New Wimbledon Store

- Advertisment -

Set to occupy part of the former Debenhams site at Wimbledon Quarter Shopping Centre, the new 24,000 sq ft store will sit on the ground floor of the redeveloped unit. The opening is expected towards the end of 2026 or early 2027, subject to construction timelines.

The store will become the retailer’s twelfth in the capital, expanding its reach across London as it celebrates 40 years of trading in the city. The site will stock Primark’s full product range, including womenswear, menswear, kids’ clothing, beauty, homeware and accessories.

Philippa Nibbs, Director of Sales for London and the South East at Primark, said: “It’s fantastic to announce our first new store in London as we enter our 40th year in the capital.

“We’ve had lots of requests over the years to open here so it’s great to finally make it happen.

“We’re looking forward to sharing more as we get nearer to opening, and in the meantime customers can continue to visit our nearby stores in Wandsworth and Tooting.”

The new store will replace part of the previously vacant Debenhams department store space, which has stood empty since the retailer’s closure. It forms part of wider regeneration work at the Wimbledon Quarter Shopping Centre, which has seen a series of changes aimed at enhancing its retail, leisure and community offer.

Centre owner Romulus has welcomed Primark’s addition to the site, positioning it as a significant boost to the local retail landscape. According to Toby Sykes, International Partner at Cushman & Wakefield, the new Primark unit “completes the reconfiguration of the former Debenhams space and complements the existing line-up of tenants across retail, leisure and flexible workspace.”

Primark’s return to London expansion follows a period of measured growth, with the retailer focusing in recent years on upgrading existing stores and entering new regional locations across the UK. The Wimbledon store will help serve communities in southwest London, improving access for shoppers who would otherwise travel to sites in nearby boroughs.

Wimbledon Quarter, previously known as Centre Court, has undergone extensive redevelopment including enhancements to layout, public spaces, and tenant mix. The introduction of Primark is expected to draw significantly increased footfall and support further investment in the site.

The retailer’s first London store opened in Woolwich in 1986, with its capital footprint now including high-traffic sites such as Oxford Street East and West, as well as locations in Lewisham, Hackney, Wood Green and both Westfield centres.

Details on recruitment and job numbers linked to the new store are expected to follow in the coming months, as the company progresses with the site’s development.
