Montblanc has opened a new 79 sqm boutique within Selfridges London, introducing a contemporary retail concept centred on writing culture, craftsmanship and the brand’s established design identity.
Developed in close collaboration with Montblanc Artistic Director Marco Tomasetta, the concept reinterprets the traditional boutique as a contemporary home of writing. The design has been adapted specifically for Selfridges, combining references to Montblanc’s heritage with the department store’s approach to creativity and retail experiences.

A Retail Environment Inspired by Writing
The boutique takes inspiration from a library, creating a setting in which visitors can explore Montblanc’s collections and the traditions associated with writing.
At its centre is the Tree of Writing, a sculptural installation made entirely from paper. The structure incorporates references to memories, stories and written moments from Montblanc’s history, reflecting the brand’s longstanding connection with the written word.
The Selfridges location is the only Montblanc boutique in London to feature the Tree of Writing.
Warm wooden flooring and custom-made furniture contribute to the interior, with elements inspired by the traditional wooden worktables used by artisans. These materials are combined with sculptural forms and details referencing Montblanc’s design codes.
Writing-inspired elements extend throughout the boutique. Ink patterns and calligraphic details appear across the interior, while a rug featuring oversized yellow ink splatters references Selfridges’ signature colour.
A Montblanc Desk designed by Tomasetta provides a dedicated space where visitors can sit and write, introducing an interactive element to the retail environment.
The opening adds another design-led branded environment to Selfridges London, where dedicated retail spaces and creative installations have become part of the department store’s wider customer experience.

Montblanc Expands Its Presence at Selfridges
Commenting on the opening, Aadil Choudhury, Brand Director, Montblanc UK and Ireland, said:
The boutique presents Montblanc’s latest releases and established collections across writing instruments, leather goods, Art of the Desk, watches and accessories. Products include the Meisterstück writing instrument and the brand’s latest leather collections.

Celebrating 100 Years of Montblanc Leather Goods
The opening coincides with the centenary of Montblanc’s leather goods, which were first introduced in 1926.
The brand’s initial leather products were pen pouches, developed to protect writing instruments during travel as changing patterns of mobility meant that pens were increasingly carried beyond the desk.
Since joining Montblanc as Artistic Director in 2021, Marco Tomasetta has overseen the development of leather goods that combine references to writing culture with the brand’s leatherworking expertise. The collections have evolved through new shapes and designs intended to balance practical use with Montblanc’s established aesthetic.
Founded in 1906, Montblanc has built its identity around writing instruments and craftsmanship. The new Selfridges boutique brings these elements together within a retail environment that combines product presentation with opportunities for visitors to engage directly with writing.
