Australian footwear label R.M.Williams is expanding its UK retail presence with the launch of its first Scottish store, located on Edinburgh’s George Street. Scheduled to open on Thursday, 22 January 2026, the store marks the company’s first standalone outlet in Scotland and its inaugural store opening of the year.
The new store occupies the former ESPC building in the centre of Edinburgh and introduces nearly a century of Australian craftsmanship to one of the city’s most established retail destinations. George Street, situated between Charlotte Square and St Andrew Square, is known for its architectural heritage, a quality that reflects the values of endurance and precision associated with R.M.Williams products.

Designed by ACRD, a Melbourne-based design studio recognised for its material-led approach, the Edinburgh store interprets the brand’s heritage through a contemporary lens. The space is described as balancing craftsmanship and restraint with timeless design, incorporating subtle nods to both Australian and Scottish traditions.
The store will feature several customer-focused services that reflect R.M.Williams’ commitment to long-lasting quality. These include expert boot fitting, repair and restoration services, complimentary boot polishing, and options for embossing or debossing to personalise items. Described as a “craft space”, the store also showcases the materials, construction and finishing techniques that define the brand’s product offering.
“Customers from Scotland, and Edinburgh in particular, have supported R.M.Williams for many years,” said Karl Wederell, General Manager of R.M.Williams UK & Europe. “So strategically, it feels right to be opening our first Scottish store in the heart of the city on George St. We build for wear and longevity. Similarly, Scottish industry has a heritage rooted in craftsmanship, high-quality materials, and pride in work that endures. Our customers here recognise that consideration and they expect it. Our first Scottish store is a focused response to a loyal community that values enduring design and real workmanship.”
The brand says the Edinburgh store is more than a retail site, it is a permanent space designed for connection, storytelling, and service. The opening reflects a long-term commitment to the UK market and builds on the brand’s broader international presence. According to the release, it is “less a launch and more a homecoming”, catering to customers who supported the label before a physical store was established in Scotland.
A launch event is planned to mark the occasion, integrating elements of local Scottish heritage. The event will include selected tastemakers with a shared commitment to craft, culture and quality.
