schuh has reopened its refurbished stores at Meadowhall, marking the latest evolution of its retail concept across both schuh Adult and schuh Kids in Sheffield.
Designed by Briggs Hillier, the updated spaces aim to bring greater consistency, flexibility and energy to the schuh store experience. To mark the reopening, schuh hosted a series of opening day activations including a matcha bar, a Converse customisation station and premium goody bag giveaways.

The Meadowhall stores reflect the wider schuh concept now being rolled out across the UK, while also introducing a number of recent enhancements developed through the ongoing collaboration between schuh and Briggs Hillier. These changes are intended to allow for greater flexibility and fluidity within the stores’ merchandising.

Layout and Fixture Updates
Within schuh Kids, new scaled-down midfloor fixtures and smaller seating elements have been introduced to improve flexibility and better suit younger customers. Across both stores, central areas have been opened up and spacing between fixtures increased, creating clearer sightlines and a more breathable retail environment.
Working in partnership with Floreeda, schuh has also introduced new REEFLO stand-off panels and shoe risers within the Kids store. The elements are made from 100% recycled acrylic, combining 50% retired schuh fixtures with 50% factory offcuts, in a move intended to reduce material waste while maintaining a premium finish.

Signage and Storefront Changes
At the rear of the stores, updated signage for both schuh Adult and schuh Kids uses faux neon lighting, with a brighter LED designed to create stronger visual impact. In the Adult store, this is complemented by a new click-and-collect destination, clearly defined with dedicated signage to support customer navigation.
The storefront has also been refined through the use of full-width shutters running from left to right, concealed behind full-height digital screens flanking the entrance when open. The approach is designed to create a more seamless frontage for Meadowhall shoppers.

Unified Material Palette
Material consistency has been strengthened across both environments through shared floor finishes, black ceiling rafts and coordinated track lighting. According to the project details, this more unified approach reinforces the brand identity while also broadening the appeal of schuh Kids to older age groups.

The refurbishment delivers a more coherent store environment, with updates focused on improving circulation, merchandising flexibility and material consistency across both formats. It also reflects the continued evolution of schuh’s retail approach, building on a brand that has developed from a single Edinburgh store in 1981 into a multi-channel footwear retailer operating across the UK and Ireland.
